About DEBORAH FERREE
I was born and raised an Ohio girl who loved the outdoors, boating, hiking and fishing in the summer time with an appreciation of nature's beauty. Now my home is Florida with summer everyday to enjoy outdoor activities, nature and create art.
My educational background is from many spirit guides such as my father who was a professional photographer and mother who is an artist and professional portrait painter. There are many legs to my experience in painting and ceramics and many mentors I have taken inspiration from through classes, workshops and books.
Originally I worked in Advertising for a photo finishing company and when that company sold, my middle management job was first out the door. It was the best thing that ever happened to me because I turned to my art for a living. After 20 years as a professional potter, in which I won many awards and prizes, and teaching art at several museums and art centers, I have now gone back to my love of creating paintings.
My photography has always been used as a tool to capture an inspiration to create a painting, which is my resource library to draw from. Some of my photos show the exact impression I wanted to capture so I sell prints of those. I paint to capture something a camera cannot and don't believe in just painting to copy a photo.
Using Alla Prima style in watercolor or acrylic on canvas, painting wet on wet, I strive to create art with the abstract freshness of a child's eye. I paint art to express the emotion of my spirit, a feeling from nature, my impression or abstract of a place.
When other people make that same emotional connection, the beauty of art endures forever.
